This journal was created in 2006 as a tool to share some of these results with an increasing audience that is interested in finding out about the advances in engineering in Colombia. We are currently moving towards reaching a broader, international audience in order to make a deeper contribution to our scientific understanding of the world. Our scope is broad and includes many topics of increasing interest regarding environmental, mechanical, electronics, biomedical, process, electric, software, energy engineering and applied sciences.</p> Shading simulation for two photovoltaics solar generation residential systems (SPV) using SAM (System Advisor Model) 2021-02-24T23:00:16+00:00 Daniela Nolasco Sebastian Solis <p>In this document, shading models are developed for photovoltaic solar generation systems located in two environments, a rural one, in the Cundiboyacense savanna, and the other one within the con-urban area of the Colombian capital. Both systems consider a typical electrical load for an average home. The photovoltaic generation systems and their components are dimensioned based on this estimation, for which, in this case, there are not considered any battery energy storage system. Shading on the panels is done using SAM, inserting objects of considerable height in both environments. The results of this modeling confirm that indeed, power losses are greater when considering the area of panels affected by shade. Therefore, a comparative simulation case is presented for the two considered environments, including and excluding losses due to the effect of shading, and the respective conclusions for this research are finally written.</p> 2021-02-24T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2021 Tecciencia COVID-19 virus behavior simulation model: Case of study Bogotá, Colombia 2021-04-19T14:59:30+00:00 Diomedes Arnoldo Sandoval Muelas David Ricardo Pedroza Martínez Diego Fernando Casas Pérez Ivanov Alexander Pineda Rincón Julio Eduardo Beltrán Vargas <p>The purpose of this article is to present a prediction on the epidemiological behavior of the COVID-19 virus for the city of Bogotá, Colombia and determine the possible incidence of the different restriction measures. Material and Methods: a dynamic model based on state information was built for all the analysis variables in the framework of a SEIR model. Results and Conclusions: it was determined that the incidence of effective isolation measures significantly affects the behavior of the disease. Results are presented for two different scenarios, with their respective sensitivity analysis using the Monte Carlo method. It is concluded that it is necessary to increase testing and reduce the time needed to get the results. It is also crucial to generate and deploy social policies that make the fulfillment of an effective quarantine possible. A DC-DC buck-boost converter is one of the methods used to operate the DC motor. Although the-DC buck-boost converter for dc motor applications has been widely studied, they have some handicaps. In this study, the multi-level inverter structure that is different from the methods of DC motor driving is used to drive the DC motor. There will<br>be no passive elements in the proposed circuit although the dc-dc converters have passive elements. So, while the inadequacies for the loads needing high current will be eliminated, the handicaps of the switching can be<br>avoided. Current, torque, and voltage on the load will also be created by Pulse Width Amplitude Method (PWAM). As a different from other Pulse width modulation methods (PWM); the torque, current, and voltage of the<br>motor can be controlled with PWAM in the horizontal and vertical axes. In the design stage; inverter switch structure and operation are given after the method of produced PWMs introduced. The equations of the voltages<br>that will occur in the loads are created according to the working structure of the switches. DC motor structure is also given.
